Estate Planning
for Life

A well-rounded estate plan is not just useful upon your death, but can also cover unexpected circumstances while you are alive.

The majority of adults will experience at least some period of time when they are unable to fully manage their affairs due to medical, physical, or mental reasons. Such circumstances can include medical emergencies, military or career deployment, incarceration, physical or developmental disability, substance abuse, or mental health issues. You should consider setting up a power of attorney; a medical healthcare directive; and HIPPA authorizations, to ensure individuals you trust can help you during difficult times.

Ask yourself the following:

  • Do I want someone that a court appoints to make financial or medical decisions on my behalf?

  • Do I want my family fighting amongst each other, or needing to pay attorneys to get authorization from a court to make important decisions on my behalf?

  • Am I comfortable with people that I do not know being aware of my health and making decisions on my behalf?
